I'm a taxidermist, so no evil intentions here.  XD
I really want to know how you got this little guy!!  For big cats do they need a lot of paperwork?

Laws vary from state to state. Mountain lions / cougars aren't protected in Texas and can be hunted at any time, for any reason, with no special permits. In some states they have a designated hunting season and require special tags. I don't think they're legal to hunt or even possess at all in California. I don't remember where this pelt came from (customer sent it in already tanned), but IIRC it came with a tag attached to the leather on the rear end of the pelt.

Thank you! As for its age, I'm not sure. I was only given the pelt to work with, not the carcass, so it's a little harder to tell; and really, it's not like I've had my hands on many mountain lions... Was definitely on the young side though, probably just a juvenile. The smallest head form I could get was still considerably too large and needed a lot of shaving down.

I am still not sure if I want to sell my little cougar pelt or not, but what would you charge for just a face open mouth.

$450, if I'm understanding you correctly. To mount just the head on a pelt is 60% of the full soft mount price, so for a cougar the head would be $300 (full body is $500)... then, for the open mouth option, add $150.

I was reading you had to get the smallest head mount for this one... and the one I have is pretty small too. It still has some visible spots on his underside so what do I have to do to see if its too small to be mounted? I posted a bunch of pics in the soft mount group asking others if it was mountable and they all seemed to think it was. But before I make a choice I need to be sure that its not too small to mount.

Will you link me to the photos? I am sure it won't be too small to mount. Either I will shave down a small cougar head form, or I will build up (add width and height to) a large bobcat head. I thought I might have to go the bobcat route on this one, but in fact it wasn't that small. Anyway, there are ways to achieve a good end result. :)
